It’s approaching the end of our third day on Organic Avenue’s raw, vegan cleanse delivery. And so far, so good! I am having WAY more energy/focus/stamina than I did on the all-juice cleanse I did back in August (re: I can actually have proper conversations with people (I think…) and get work done). This is awesome, since the last cleanse we did left me feeling spacey and jittery and weird.
Aside from the hunger (yes – there is hunger!), physically, I feel fine. Not I-want-to-run-a-marathon good, but I-can-live-life-as-usual good. Which is impressive, considering that I am drinking most of my food and consuming way less than usual.
Unfortunately, today there was a cleanse disaster. Long story short, we somehow got dropped from their system and our cleanse delivery didn’t show up this morning (not a good way to start your day when you’re hungry and cranky and you’re not supposed to eat anything other than what’s being delivered to you..). In the end, we called and were able to finally get things delivered late in the day (around 10a). The most unfortunate part about this – besides my grumpiness in waiting over 2 hours to get my first food of the day – was that we didn’t get some of what was promised on the menu for today’s meal. One of the funnest parts about this cleanse is that, unlike the juice delivery cleanse we did, each day has different foods. So when I saw today’s menu and realized we’d be getting lemon-lime smoothies and a carrot-ginger soup for lunch, I was beside myself with excitement! Alas, we got some repeats from our previous days of cleansing, which was a bummer.
I’m trying to get over it, because the food we’ve been eating so far HAS been tasty. Here’s a re-cap:
What we’ve been eating thus far:
We begin each day with a glass of lemon water. We make this at home, it’s not delivered. The lemon water things “going” and starts the cleansing process. I actually recommend doing this daily, cleanse or no cleanse.
We then move on to our shot of liquid chlorophyll, one of nature’s most powerful detoxers. It also has the amazing ability to turn our teeth bright green: as in, hulk-green. We have to brush for a while to get them white again, but there’s a certain fun in seeing your partner smile at you through neon green teeth. This is the hardest thing to get down – it tastes like pureed plant (at least what I imagine pureed plant to taste like). So we figured out that the best thing to do it just to shoot it down as quickly as possible.
Our next item on the menu is a fruit juice – so far it’s varied between fresh-pressed pear juice, pink grapefruit, and green apple. Delicious!!
From there we move on to a green juice, which I generally drink around 10a. This is your typical, super-good-for-you green veggie juice and while drinkable, it isn’t exactly scrumptious. But I know the health benefits outweigh the flavor so I drink it down willingly.
Lunch time brings a smoothie which has contained mango, banana, coconut, and often some greens in there too. It’s on the sweeter side, thick and filling.
Our mid-afternoon meal has been a raw green soup each day (argh! I missed you carrot ginger!). Usually a combo of avocado and other greens like basil or cucumber. Filling and quite tasty (I seem to like these soups more than Matt, who eats them because he has to and not out of enjoyment).
Dinner has been AMAZING each night. There is a small salad which varies nightly. My fave so far was our first night’s dinner – edamame with yellow and red peppers in a delicious dressing. Last night’s salad was sunflower sprouts with sesame seeds and another yummy dressing, and tonight’s is a seaweed salad in a miso dressing that I am SOO excited for!!
Dessert is the yummiest coconut water ever. A nice way to end your night.
Despite all that food, we’ve been hungry, and we’ve been cheating…tomorrow I’ll tell you about the snacks we’ve been sneaking when we just can’t hold out any more.
