I choose to work with Andrea because I felt an alignment with her description of her weight challenges with my own struggle with weight. My challenges were around learning to take responsibility for food decisions and being an active participant throughout the process of planning, selecting, and preparing my foods. While working together, I learned at a new level how my “holding onto” my weight can be connected to my needs outside of food. I wanted to work with Andrea because the background in her bio seemed similar to mine, specifically in terms of her career change and past weight issues. I came to Andrea with not perfect, but already healthy eating habits to address the changing needs of my 47 year old body. My main need was to equalize and maintain my energy level throughout the day, discover and incorporate new foods to keep my interest and to loose or maintain my weight. I was open to making adjustments and trying new things to accomplish those goals. In the course of my work with Andrea, I really opened up to cooking my own food, which I did very little of prior and really discovered food in an entirely new way. I went from fearing grains (because they contain carbohydrates, which was a no-no) to including them in my daily diet, I eliminated Splenda, I eat more seasonally and creatively, I tried a cleanse and reduced my coffee consumption. I have a much better understanding of food and how it supports my body and its changing needs.
